The short version

Xamine does not collect, store or transmit any personal data. It has no analytics, no crash reporting service, no accounts and no network access. Everything it does happens on your Mac.

What Xamine does with your files

When you preview a file with Quick Look, macOS hands that file to one of Xamine's extensions. The extension reads it, builds a page describing it, and gives that page to Quick Look. Nothing is written back to the file, nothing is copied elsewhere, and the page is discarded when the preview closes. The extensions run inside the macOS App Sandbox and can only read the file being previewed.

Pages rendered by Xamine carry a Content Security Policy that forbids scripts and remote resources, so a document cannot load anything from the internet just because you previewed it.

Settings

Xamine stores your preferences (appearance, line wrapping, whether keyboard forwarding is on, whether you have seen the welcome tour) and the last scroll position of previewed files in the app's own preferences on your Mac. These never leave your Mac.

Keyboard forwarding and Accessibility access

Quick Look does not pass keystrokes to preview extensions. If you turn on Forward keyboard to previews, Xamine asks for macOS's Accessibility permission so it can notice a small set of keyboard shortcuts (⌘F, ⌘G, ⌘L, ⌘B, ⌘+, ⌘−, ⌘0) and the characters typed into a preview's find or line field while an Xamine preview is on screen, and pass them to its own extension. Keys are forwarded to the extension in memory and are never logged, stored or transmitted. The feature is off by default, and Xamine ignores the keyboard entirely when no Xamine preview is open.

Third parties

Xamine embeds no third-party SDKs and contacts no third-party services. If you install it from the Mac App Store, Apple's own privacy policy governs the purchase and download.

Children

Xamine is a developer utility and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with an updated date.
