Previews don't appear after installing

macOS leaves new Quick Look extensions off. Open System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions › Quick Look and switch on both Xamine entries. Xamine's welcome tour (Help › Welcome Tour) opens that pane and tests the previews for you.

If Finder keeps showing an old preview for a file you previewed before installing, run qlmanage -r in Terminal, or log out and back in.

A file still shows the generic preview

• .ips crash logs and .mobileprovision profiles are claimed by Apple's own previewers, which take precedence. Xamine previews .crash and .hang reports instead.
• Files without an extension (Dockerfile, Podfile, Gemfile) can't be routed to a Quick Look extension.
• .ts is treated as MPEG transport stream by macOS, so TypeScript is only recognized as .tsx, .mts and .cts.

⌘F and ⌘L don't do anything in a preview

Finder keeps the keyboard while Quick Look is open. Turn on Forward keyboard to previews in Xamine, then grant Accessibility access: in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility click +, pick Xamine in Applications, and switch it on. macOS doesn't list sandboxed apps there by itself, which is why the + step is needed. Keep Xamine in the Applications folder so the permission keeps matching.

With the permission granted, Xamine stays in the menu bar so the forwarding keeps working after its window is closed. Open at login keeps it that way across restarts.

Why does Xamine ask for Accessibility access?

Only to see those shortcuts while one of its previews is on screen. It never stores or transmits what you type. See the privacy policy.

Reporting a file that renders wrong

If a file previews but looks wrong, email a copy of the file (or a redacted one) and a screenshot. Every previewer is covered by tests, so a good sample usually turns into a fix quickly.
